Leadwork may crack over time and thermal movement can cause mortar at the sides of the valley to dislodge.
Lead valleys are usually replaced using a single length of Code 5 quality lead. Sometimes, due to the design of the roof it is preferable to use short lengths of lead with overlaps.
Repairs to the valley necessitate removal and then re-fixing of tiles either side of the valley in order to lap the leadwork under the adjacent tiles. In extreme cases the replacement of the timber or plywood valley board supporting the lead is necessary.
